Introduction

On Sunday, September 27, 2026, Reverend Pastor Nelson delivered the third part of the teaching on the principles and laws of the tithe. The message turned on a foundational truth: Paying the tithe is an obligation, not a matter of diligence. Faithfulness in the tithe is essential to the fulfillment of the Lord's covenant.

1. Something consecrated to the Lord (Leviticus 27:30, 34)

According to Leviticus 27:30, Every tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land or of the fruit of the trees, is the Lord's; it is holy to the Lord.

The tithe is not a mere optional recommendation, nor a favor we do for God. It is a sacred ordinance that seals the covenant. To withhold what belongs to God is to break the spiritual agreement that secures our blessing.

2. Returning to the covenant, and the rebuke of the devourer (Malachi 3:7-12)

In Malachi 3:7, God issues a pressing call to His people: Return to me, and I will return to you. When the people ask how, the Lord makes clear that returning to Him includes obedience in tithes and offerings.

When we bring the whole tithe into the storehouse:

  • God opens the windows of heaven: He pours out blessing in abundance, granting favor, wisdom, and creative ideas for our work.

  • God rebukes the devourer: He protects our families, our income, and our possessions from needless financial loss, recurring illness, and waste.

3. Practical application and faithfulness of heart

The tithe is exactly 10 percent of our earnings. It is to be brought with joy and regularity to the local church where the believer is fed spiritually. It is through this steady faithfulness that we allow God's covenant to be fulfilled fully in our lives.
